Impact for Hire #1: Rachel Stand

Our Impact for Hire series highlights purpose-driven professionals looking either to break into an impact career or looking for their next opportunity after a layoff. If you would like to be highlighted in a future article, please complete this form. We are not recruiters – this series is meant to pay it forward by helping foster a community of support for purpose-driven professionals.

Based in New York City, Rachel Stand is a sustainability communications extraordinaire, foodie and book worm with powerful passion for environmental sustainability.

Most recently serving as Corporate Social Responsibility Communications Manager at Disney, Rachel is well-versed in communication strategy, brand messaging, reputation and brand management, media relations and research & analysis. If you can name it, she has probably written it: press releases, social media posts, blogs, memos and internal communication. Previously, she worked at the strategic communications agency Hill+Knowlton Strategies, where she first cut her teeth on sustainability storytelling.

Rachel recently lost her job at Disney after Robert Iger returned as Disney CEO and commenced corporate restructuring that resulted in thousands of people being cut from the payroll.

“I'd love to remain in sustainability, purpose, or CSR communications,” Rachel said when asked  about her ideal next role. “I'm open to any industry, but prefer beauty, consumer products, retail, apparel, technology, and/or entertainment.”

Having studied environmental science and policy at Duke, she always has had a dual interest in sustainability and communication. Entering roles that combine both aspects makes her feel like she can make a positive difference through purpose-driven storytelling.

When asked about her “sustainability superpower” Rachel says: “Distilling complex issues into relatable concepts that can be easily digested and understood by stakeholder groups such as consumers, investors and NGO partners.”

Rachel is currently available for hire and is interested in opportunities either in New York or remote-based. If you would like to learn more about Rachel or connect with her, check out her LinkedIn here.
